How Chelsea keeping Callum Hudson-Odoi meant they lost Jamal Musiala – and now they have neither

The connection between Jamal Musiala and Callum Hudson Odoi goes deeper than the fact that they’re both fantastic talents who came through Chelsea’s academy.

In fact, in words which will be immensely frustrating for Blues fans given we now own neither of them, Bayern Munich bigwig Karl Heinz Rummenigge has today explained how his team’s failure to sign one indirectly led to their move to sign the other.

In quotes translated by Sport Witness, Rummenigge explained how it all went down:

“In hindsight, it was a lucky twist of fate. His development is great, we don’t need to talk about it. The movement talent, the dribbling, his goal threat and how he prepares goals – what he does is at a very high level.”

As the article explained, it was in fact Hudson-Odoi’s brother Bradley who helped negotiate the Musiala deal once Callum’s move was blocked by Chelsea.

Now Musiala is looking like one of the best players in Europe, and Hudson-Odoi is finding form in the Premier League at last after overcoming his injuries, while Chelsea are left with Noni Madueke and Mykhailo Mudryk and a £100m hole on the balance sheet.
