Ablekuma North Elections: EC’s rigging plot exposed
A senior communicator for the Movement for Change, Solomon Owusu, has raised serious concerns about the Electoral Commission’s handling of the 2024 general elections, claiming the unresolved parliamentary dispute in Ablekuma North is a clear sign of attempts to manipulate the process.

In an interview with Accra-based 3FM on Thursday, July 3, Mr. Owusu alleged that the Jean Mensa-led Electoral Commission had devised multiple strategies to rig the elections, but the vigilance of ordinary Ghanaians helped prevent the plan from succeeding.
“There is little an EC officer can do if citizens are vigilant. They had all the strategies to rig the 2024 elections, targeting from all aspects. Otherwise, we wouldn’t still have the issue with Ablekuma North unresolved after seven months,” he said.
Mr. Owusu went further to describe the Commission as lacking competence and credibility, stating that the institution urgently needs major reforms. He backed the call for a “reset agenda” as championed by President John Dramani Mahama, suggesting that restoring public trust in the EC must be a national priority.
“The Electoral Commission has been a body that is not competent, and it needs a lot of reforms, a lot of resetting in that direction. If we are resetting, let’s go for competence and appoint someone who will not do the government’s bidding,” he said.
To support his claims, he cited irregularities with the voter register ahead of the 2024 elections, including reports of unlawful voter transfers, which he believes further highlight the Commission’s failures.
Mr. Owusu’s remarks add to growing public and political scrutiny of the Electoral Commission’s role in the 2024 polls, especially in light of unresolved disputes such as the situation in Ablekuma North.
