Ablekuma North: Voting at Odorkor Methodist 1 polling station suspended

The voting process at the Odorkor Methodist 1 polling station has been temporarily suspended following a violent incident during the Ablekuma North parliamentary rerun being held in 19 polling stations.

Chaos broke out when a group of unidentified thugs arrived at the polling station in a pickup vehicle. Despite the presence of police officers on duty, the group forced their way into the polling premises and headed straight for the area where voting was taking place. They began physically attacking people without provocation.

One of the victims of the assault was the former Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East Constituency, Hawa Koomson. According to TV3’s Stanley Nii Blewu, who witnessed the incident, Koomson was kicked in the groin and collapsed to the ground. The attackers continued to assault her while she lay on the floor until police officers intervened and rushed her away from the scene.

The journalist further reported that a female reporter from JoyNews, who was filming the events as they unfolded, was also targeted and physically assaulted by the thugs. Several other individuals at the polling station were also attacked during the disturbance.

The violent scene led to the suspension of voting at the center as officials and voters were thrown into a state of panic. Security forces have since increased their presence at the station to prevent further disruptions and to ensure the safety of the voting process.

The Electoral Commission is yet to issue an official statement on the attack. Meanwhile, concerns about security, intimidation, and voter safety continue to mount as tensions in the Ablekuma North rerun remain high.
