Ablekuma North: Why are you doing this to us, we’ve already won – NPP NPP insists
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has stood by its decision not to take part in the Electoral Commission’s planned rerun of parliamentary elections in 19 polling stations within the Ablekuma North constituency, set for Friday, July 11, 2025.

This comes after Justice Ali Baba Abature, on Wednesday, July 9, dismissed an application by the party’s 2024 parliamentary candidate, Nana Akua Afriyie, who had sought an interim injunction to halt the rerun. The judge ruled that the request was “unmeritorious.”
The court stated that stopping the rerun would interfere with the Electoral Commission’s constitutional responsibility and prevent the people of Ablekuma North from having representation in Parliament.
The NPP had earlier argued that the Commission’s decision to organize a rerun went against a January 4, 2025, High Court directive, which instructed the collation and declaration of results from 62 outstanding polling stations.
According to the party’s legal team, by January 27, only three polling stations had not been collated, as confirmed by public statements from the EC.
Speaking to Citi Eyewitness News after the court ruling, NPP Deputy General Secretary Haruna Mohammed said the party still believes it won the election and sees no need to participate in a rerun.
“We think that we have won the election. The law will definitely speak on this particular matter. We don’t go to contest for an election that we have won,” Mohammed said.
He added that the party would continue to explore legal options and emphasized their respect for due process.
“We intend to pursue further the case in court, and at any point in time, the remedy that the court will proffer, we as a law-abiding party, a corporate institution — the NPP — will follow suit,” he stated.
Meanwhile, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has assured the public of its commitment to maintaining peace and security during the upcoming parliamentary rerun in Ablekuma North.
