Ablekuma North: You have elected someone who can go and fight for you – Ewurabena Aubynn
Ewurabena Aubynn, the newly elected Member of Parliament for Ablekuma North, has shared her joy after winning the just-ended parliamentary rerun, calling the moment a “good feeling” and a big relief for the people in the constituency.

Speaking with the media monitored by DailyNewsGhana shortly after her victory was announced on Friday, July 11, Aubynn highlighted how important it was to bring an end to the long wait for representation in Parliament. The constituency had gone over six months without a sitting MP due to disputes after the December 2024 general election.
“It means that the people of Ablekuma North, at least after six months, we get to have a representation in Parliament—someone who can also go and fight for our people. So it is a good feeling,” she said.
Her win brings closure to a protracted political standoff that began after the December 2024 elections, when unresolved issues with 19 polling station results delayed the declaration of a winner. The Electoral Commission later ordered a rerun in those specific polling stations to ensure the process was fair and complete.
Although the rerun was conducted to restore calm and legitimacy, the voting process did not pass without challenges. There were several reports of violence, including attacks on the NPP’s parliamentary candidate, Nana Akua Afriyie, and former Fisheries Minister, Hawa Koomson. Some journalists covering the elections were also assaulted during the chaos at various polling centres.
Despite the tension, the rerun concluded successfully, and Aubynn’s win marks a major shift for the National Democratic Congress in a constituency that has long been considered a New Patriotic Party stronghold.
