Adwoa Safo wins big
Former Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya and former Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Sarah Adwoa Safo, has been honoured with the African Giant in Leadership, Governance and Humanitarian Award for her remarkable contributions to human development and social welfare in Ghana and beyond.

The award was presented by Imperial Leo Limited at the 2025 Africa Corporate Connect held at the British Council in Accra on Friday, October 31, 2025. It recognises individuals and institutions whose work has significantly advanced leadership, governance, and humanitarian efforts across borders.
According to the organisers, the Africa Corporate Connect initiative seeks to “identify and publicly recognise worthy counterparts and cross-border partners for enterprises and institutions within and beyond the African continent.”
Adwoa Safo was celebrated for her outstanding dedication to improving lives through education, healthcare, and social empowerment.
As a Member of Parliament, she supported hundreds of children by paying their school fees and ensuring access to healthcare. She also led the construction of clinics and hospitals to improve access to quality medical care in her constituency.
In her role as Minister of State in charge of Public Procurement, she was instrumental in formulating policies that ensured 30 percent of all government procurement opportunities were reserved for women, youth, and persons with disabilities—an important milestone that promoted inclusivity in public contracting.
Beyond her service in public office, Adwoa Safo continues to make a lasting impact through her Adwoa Safo Foundation (ASF), established in 2014. The foundation supports women and children with disabilities, widows, and the aged through various empowerment and welfare programs.
Her continuous efforts to uplift the vulnerable in society through social interventions have earned her admiration and respect across the country.
As the first female Deputy Majority Leader and Chairperson of the Women’s Caucus in Parliament, she led several economic empowerment projects, training programmes, and conferences for women parliamentarians both locally and internationally.
