Agradaa hit with sad news again

The Amasaman High Court has denied bail to self-styled evangelist Patricia Asiedua, popularly known as Nana Agradaa, as she seeks to overturn her recent conviction and 15-year prison sentence.

Agradaa was convicted on July 3, 2025, on three counts: one for charlatanic advertisement and two for defrauding by false pretenses. She was fined 25 penalty units (or 30 days in default) for the first charge and sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment with hard labor on each of the remaining counts. The sentences are to run concurrently.

Following the conviction, her legal team filed an appeal and a motion for bail pending the appeal hearing. They argued that Agradaa posed no flight risk, would comply with bail terms, and had sureties ready to meet any court-imposed conditions.

However, the court refused the bail request and instructed the registrar to prepare the case records within 14 days to facilitate the appeal process.

Her lead counsel, Bernard Kofi Asamoah, said their next step is to pursue the appeal, insisting that the conviction was unjust and marred by legal irregularities. The lawyers alleged bias on the part of the trial judge and claimed the burden of proof had been improperly placed on the accused.

They also argued that the judgment failed to consider mitigating factors such as Agradaa’s cooperation during the trial and her plea for leniency, referencing Ghana’s sentencing guidelines.

Despite the setback, her legal team remains hopeful for a favorable outcome on appeal. For now, Nana Agradaa continues to serve her sentence at the Nsawam Female Prison.
