Akwatia by-election is for us – NDC
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) says it is fully confident in the security arrangements for the upcoming Akwatia by-election and has urged supporters to remain calm and respect the electoral process.

According to a citinewsroom.com report on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, the party’s Deputy Director of Elections and IT, Rashid Sofo Tanko-Computer, said the NDC was satisfied with the security briefing it received from the police.
He stressed that the party had no plans of deploying its own security, contrary to claims from the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
“We have full confidence in the state security. We were with them at the Kumawu by-election, we were with them at the Assin North by-election, and we saw what happened at Ablekuma North,” he said.
His comments follow NPP National Organiser Henry Nana Boakye’s statement on Citi Eyewitness News that his party would introduce internal mechanisms to protect its members during the September 2 by-election.
Although Nana Boakye explained that the measures would be lawful and non-violent, the NDC cautioned that such actions could raise tensions.
Tanko-Computer noted that his party had observed the role of the security agencies in past by-elections and was confident that lives and property would be safeguarded at Akwatia.
“We are satisfied with the briefing that the security gave us today. The setup they put in place clearly shows that they want to protect lives and property at Akwatia,” he added.
