In Africa, genotype is important in relationships and marriages because people with incompatible genotypes can give birth to children with sickle cell anemia, which can lead to illness or death.

Tube tying, also known as tubal ligation, is a surgical procedure for women that permanently prevents pregnancy by blocking or cutting the fallopian tubes which connect the ovaries to the uterus.
