Basic School textbook vilifying Christianity was smuggle into the market – Deputy Education Minister

Deputy Education Minister, John Ntim Fordjour, has described as misconceived and obnoxious, content in a textbook published by Excellence Publications which vilifies Christianity.

The Assin South Member of Parliament in a tweet Thursday, May 25, 2023, said the primary 4 textbook titled ‘History of Ghana for Basic Schools’ was smuggled onto the market for unsuspecting learners.

“I condemn entirely the rather obnoxious content found in a textbook published by ‘Excellence Publications’ and smuggled into the market for unsuspecting learners. The content is appalling and misconceived,” parts of his tweet read.

The Deputy Minister further commended the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment’s (NaCCA) swift recall of the books on the market.

The minister underscored the critical role of religion in the country, therefore cautioning authors to be wary of what they codify on it.

“Ghana is most peaceful for a reason, and the important place of religion cannot be undermined,” he said.
