Bawumia gets 118 new push from former NPP parliamentary candidates

A group of 118 former New Patriotic Party parliamentary candidates has announced its support for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia ahead of the party’s presidential primaries scheduled for January 31, 2026.

The endorsement was made public at a press conference led by former Sekondi Member of Parliament, Andrew Egyapa Mercer.

The former Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture explained that the decision was taken after wide consultations and careful assessment of the outcome of the 2024 general elections.

He said Dr. Bawumia’s leadership skills, integrity and commitment to innovation make him the right candidate to lead the NPP going forward.

Mr Egyapa Mercer pointed to Dr. Bawumia’s experience in public service, economic management and digital transformation as the main factors that influenced the group’s decision.

He noted that the support comes from all regions and constituencies, describing it as evidence of broad agreement within the party at both the grassroots and leadership levels.
