Bawumia is a wreckage of defeat, we can’t trust him – NPP Communicator
Nana Bonsu, a member of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) communication team, has issued a strong warning to the party, saying the potential candidacy of former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia would guarantee defeat in the 2028 general elections.

Speaking on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, Nana Bonsu challenged claims by Dr Bawumia’s supporters that he is the party’s best hope for victory. He argued that presenting the man once hailed as an “Economic Wizard” would lead to a loss even worse than the party’s 2024 performance.
Nana Bonsu warned that the NPP risks staying in opposition for up to 60 years if it fails to select a stronger candidate.
He urged delegates not to be influenced, intimidated, or bought with financial inducements.
“The delegates must be vigilant and prevent a defeat in 2028. You can decide to present Bawumia ten times, and he will lose ten times. We must find a better candidate,” he told host Kwabena Agyapong.
Commenting on the political landscape, Nana Bonsu said the governing NDC, led by President John Dramani Mahama, is performing well. He noted the appreciation of the cedi and general economic stabilisation as factors making it harder for the NPP to regain power.
“President Mahama is doing his best at the moment, and if he continues, there will be no chance for the NPP to defeat the NDC. We have to be strategic. Ghanaians have already made up their minds that they don’t want Dr Bawumia, so the party should not force him on us.”
He added that Dr Bawumia remains closely associated with the perceived failures of the Akufo-Addo administration.
He specifically cited the ongoing public anger over former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, who is currently abroad and facing potential prosecution for corruption-related offences.
Nana Bonsu said Ghanaians are still angry about the legacy of Akufo-Addo and Bawumia, and the link to Ken Ofori-Atta continues to damage Dr Bawumia’s image. His own fieldwork shows that the former vice president no longer has a chance with voters.
He urged delegates to focus on the party’s long-term survival rather than short-term financial gains, insisting they should not vote for a losing candidate.
“Ghanaians are still livid about the Akufo-Addo and Bawumia governance. The most annoying part was the Ken Ofori-Atta factor, who is currently abroad and sought after by Ghanaian authorities to face prosecution for corruption-related offences. So, do you vote for someone who was part of that history? Don’t we have any other candidate contesting whom we can vote for? I was once supporting Bawumia, but after going to the grounds, I realised he stands no chance. The delegates should not accept money and vote for a losing candidate.”…CONTINUE MORE READING>>>
