BOMSHELL: Former MCE exposes Bryan Acheampong’s role in NPP’s 2024 heavy defeat
Former Bawku Municipal Chief Executive, Amadu Hamza, has accused former Minister of Food and Agriculture, Dr Bryan Acheampong, of deliberately undermining the presidential campaign of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia. He believes this was one of the major reasons the New Patriotic Party (NPP) lost the 2024 elections.

In a statement posted on Facebook on August 25, 2025, Hamza alleged that Dr Acheampong withheld farm support items that were meant for more than 800,000 farmers in the northern part of the country under a World Bank dry-spell intervention programme. He claimed this move weakened Dr Bawumia’s popularity in his stronghold.
Hamza explained that in 2023, after a severe drought hit northern Ghana, the World Bank approved support to provide maize and rice to affected farmers. According to him, the items were expected to arrive in September 2024, but less than 5 percent of the 57 MMDAs across the five northern regions received anything before the elections.
“In the case of Bawku, I can say without equivocation that I did not receive a single bag of rice or maize contrary to what was put out in the public domain,” Hamza said.
He argued that this deliberate act of sabotage reduced support for Dr Bawumia in key constituencies, not because of his tribe as Bryan recently suggested. Hamza also accused Dr Acheampong of exploiting the Bawku conflict for political purposes, describing it as “reckless and dangerous.”
The former MCE went on to highlight other factors he believes hurt the NPP in 2024. These included the controversial attempt to acquire Labadi Beach Hotel, Acheampong’s widely criticized comment that “we will not hand over power,” which he said angered many Ghanaians, and his handling of the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election when he served as National Security Minister, which became a propaganda tool for the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Hamza stressed that the NPP’s defeat should not be blamed on one individual alone but should be seen as a collective responsibility of the party. He advised Dr Acheampong and other senior members to put an end to divisive politics and rather focus on building unity as the NPP works towards the 2028 elections.
“Remember that a battalion of soldiers in a war is aware of one fact: either they win or lose. In this case, we must win in 2028, but to win, we need unity, not division. United we stand, divided we fall. DMB is coming,” he stated…CONTINUE MORE READING>>>
