Bryan Acheampong in ‘trouble’

The Parliament of Ghana has stated that it has no records of documents confirming the release of Abetifi lawmaker and former Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, from the US Armed Forces.

A Ghanaian citizen, Edison Osbert Lartey, submitted a Right to Information (RTI) request asking whether Parliament had received from Dr. Acheampong details of his enlistment rank and discharge from the United States Air Force or any other branch of the US Armed Forces, including a copy of his Certificate of Honourable Discharge or similar documentation.

The request also noted that Dr. Acheampong had promised to provide such details to Parliament’s Appointments Committee during his vetting for the Minister of Agriculture in the previous administration.

In its response under the Right to Information Act, 2019 (Act 989), Parliament said no official documentation was submitted and that it has no record of Dr. Acheampong’s enlistment, rank, or discharge certificate.

“With respect to this request, kindly be informed that there is no record indicating that details of Honourable Bryan Acheampong’s rank of enlistment or discharge from the United States Air Force, or any other branch of the United States Armed Forces, were submitted to the leadership of Parliament or to the Appointments Committee following its meeting on Monday, 20th February 2023, to vet the Minister-designate for Food and Agriculture,” the Clerk of Parliament, Ebenezer Ahumah Dzietror, stated.

He added, “Similarly, there is no record to show that Honourable Bryan Acheampong submitted any document to the Committee confirming his service in the United States Air Force (or any related institution). Consequently, Parliament is unable to provide certified copies or further particulars relating to the rank of enlistment and discharge, as no such documentation was presented to Parliament.”…CONTINUE MORE READING>>>
