Cedi was the best currency in the world during Akufo Addo’s time – Napo

Former Manhyia South MP, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as Napo, has said that the current appreciation of the Ghanaian cedi cannot be compared to what happened under President Akufo-Addo.

In an interview with 1956 News, Napo stated that he is not impressed with the cedi’s appreciation under the current NDC government.

According to him, the cedi is appreciating without any real economic impact.

He argued that despite the appreciation, the prices of goods and services continue to rise.

Napo recalled that under the NPP government, even when the cedi was trading at 15 to the dollar, a bag of cement cost $6.

He contrasted this with the current situation under the NDC government, where he claims that even with a stronger cedi, the price of a bag of cement is now $14.

He further stated that under the NPP, the cedi was at one point the best-performing currency in the world.
