Count on My Cooperation During Transition Period – Mahama Tells Akufo-Addo
President-elect John Dramani Mahama has expressed his full commitment to a smooth and collaborative transition process, reaffirming his respect for outgoing President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his administration.
During the inauguration of the National Transition Team at the Accra International Conference Centre, Mahama assured Akufo-Addo of his complete cooperation, both during and after the transition period.
“Mr. President [Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo], you can count on my respect and cooperation during and even after this transition,” Mahama stated, emphasizing his dedication to a peaceful and orderly handover of power.
He also called on the transition team to prioritize national unity and the greater good, urging, “Let the spirit of nationalism prevail.” His remarks underscored the importance of putting the country’s interests above partisan politics as Ghana navigates this crucial period of governance change.
The transition officially began earlier that day with a meeting at the Jubilee House, marking the start of an organized handover process from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The National Transition Team, established under the Presidential (Transition) Act of 2012 (Act 845), will oversee the transfer of executive authority. The team is tasked with briefing the incoming administration on key state matters, ensuring access to critical government data, and coordinating the formal inauguration of the President-elect.
Outgoing President Akufo-Addo has already announced the members of his government’s side of the Transition Team, highlighting the importance of a seamless and respectful handover process.
This peaceful collaboration between the two leaders demonstrates Ghana’s deep democratic values and its continued commitment to upholding the principles of good governance. The transition period remains a key reflection of the maturity of Ghana’s political institutions, ensuring national progress and stability beyond partisan divides.
