Debating Bawumia is needless – Ofosu Ampofo advises Mahama

A former National Chair of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, has advised John Dramani Mahama not to debate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Mr. Ofosu Ampofo says the Vice President has no credibility to be debated by the former President and flag bearer of the NDC, John Dramani Mahama.

Instead, Mr. Ofosu Ampofo has asked the John Mahama to concentrate on drumming home his policies to the Ghanaian people instead of engaging in a debate.

His call comes on the back of an invitation from the Director of Communications for the Bawumia Campaign, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, that his candidate, Dr. Bawumia, was ready to debate the former President only if he avails himself.

Reacting to the call, Mr. Ofosu-Ampofo noted that the Vice President has demonstrated dishonesty over the years, expressing the futility in engaging in any debate with him.

“Dr. Bawumia has shown on numerous occasions that he cannot be trusted, and engaging him in a debate would serve no purpose for the former president and the flag bearer of the NDC. I think President Mahama should stay focused on presenting his policies and vision to the people of Ghana, rather than wasting time debating someone who has consistently lied. This is my personal opinion,” he said on Accra-based Metro TV.

Meanwhile, the former Minister of Local Government and Rural Development defended the integrity and reliability of John Mahama, in contrast to that of the current Vice President and flag bearer of the NPP.

“President Mahama is a trustworthy politician who has always stood by his word,” he continued. “During his tenure as president, he demonstrated honesty and dedication to the people of Ghana. The same cannot be said about the current Vice President,” he stated.

Many look forward to a debate between candidates for the two major political parties ahead of the December 07 polls.

They believe such platform will offer Ghanaians the opportunity to access the candidates to make informed choices on the election day.

Although IMANI-Africa has said it has extended invitations to the two candidates for the debate, it was yet to get responses from them.
