Dr. Opuni Praises God as State Withdraws Legal Case

Dr. Stephen Kwabena Opuni, former Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), has expressed deep gratitude to God following the state’s decision to withdraw all charges against him in a long-standing legal battle.
The case, which lasted nearly six years, was officially discontinued on January 28, 2025, when Attorney-General and Minister of Justice Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine instructed the withdrawal of all charges against Dr. Opuni and businessman Seidu Agongo.
A Long Legal Battle Ends
Dr. Opuni and Agongo were initially charged with 27 counts, including:
✅ Defrauding by false pretenses
✅ Willfully causing financial loss to the state
✅ Money laundering
✅ Corruption by a public officer
The case revolved around allegations that Dr. Opuni, during his tenure at COCOBOD, facilitated the procurement of substandard fertilizers, purportedly causing financial losses to the state.
Opuni’s Reaction
Following the court’s announcement, Dr. Opuni expressed joy and attributed his legal victory to divine intervention.
“The living God I serve has disgraced, cursed all my enemies, my persecutors, and destiny haters,” he stated.
The case withdrawal has sparked mixed reactions, with some seeing it as a victory for justice, while others question the broader implications for accountability in Ghana’s public sector.
