EC Suspends Re-collation for Dome Kwabenya and Ablekuma North
The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced the suspension of the re-collation exercise for the Dome Kwabenya and Ablekuma North parliamentary constituencies, citing the absence of critical pink sheets and unresolved disputes over essential election documents.
Background on the Re-collation
Dome Kwabenya and Ablekuma North are among nine constituencies identified for re-collation following a High Court directive to review election results due to alleged irregularities.
To date, the EC has successfully declared results in seven constituencies, all favoring the New Patriotic Party (NPP). These include:
– Ahafo Ano North
– Techiman South
– Ahafo Ano South West
– Nsawam Adoagyiri
– Obuasi East
– Okaikwei Central
– Tema Central
Challenges with Ablekuma North Re-collation
In Ablekuma North, the re-collation was halted due to the returning officer’s inability to provide the complete set of required pink sheets. Of the total documents expected, 62 remain outstanding, making it impossible to proceed with the process.
### Issues with Dome Kwabenya Re-collation
For Dome Kwabenya, the returning officer reported that pink sheets for three polling stations exist only in soft copy. Attempts to produce hard copies have failed, with neither the NPP nor the National Democratic Congress (NDC) able to provide the necessary records.
The NPP attributes the missing pink sheets to violent disruptions during the initial collation process. Party representatives allege their agents were assaulted, and critical documents were destroyed during the chaos.
### Security Measures and Commitment
The re-collation exercises have been conducted under heavy security, with joint military and police personnel ensuring order and transparency.
Despite the suspension, the EC has assured stakeholders of its commitment to resolving the outstanding issues. Speaking to the press, Benjamin Bano Bio, the Director of Electoral Services, reaffirmed the EC’s dedication to upholding electoral integrity. He noted that investigations are ongoing to address the missing documents and disputes in Dome Kwabenya and Ablekuma North.
The EC emphasized its resolve to deliver transparent and credible results in these contentious constituencies.
