“Establishing the Women’s Bank will be my top priority” – Emmanuel Agyekum

The Minister of State-Designate for Special Initiatives Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum, has reiterated his commitment to making the establishment of the Women’s Bank a top priority if confirmed.

During his vetting by Parliament’s Appointments Committee, Mr Agyekum stressed the importance of fulfilling the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and John Dramani Mahama’s campaign promise to create a dedicated financial institution for women entrepreneurs.

“If I have the opportunity, it is one of the key things I would like to roll out as soon as possible. It is a promise we made to most Ghanaians

“For example, a woman in Nkoranza today will be sitting there and will ask me about the promise made by John Dramani Mahama during the campaign on the establishment of the Women’s Bank so they have the facility to do their business. I think it is a promise we made to Ghanaians, and we have to do it as soon as possible,” he stated.

The Women’s Bank, a flagship initiative of the NDC, is designed to empower women in business by providing tailored financial products and resources.

It is proposed to be managed exclusively by women, focusing on addressing the specific challenges faced by women in entrepreneurship and various industries.

Mr. Agyekum expressed his optimism about the bank’s potential to transform women-led businesses and promote gender-inclusive development across the country.

The initiative has been hailed as a step towards enhancing economic inclusion and addressing gender disparities in access to financial resources, especially for women in rural areas.
