Everyone in the Zongos don’t like arrogant NAPO – Pro-NPP Muslim Clerics
Some Muslim clerics who identify themselves as sympathisers of the ruling New Patriotic Party have expressed their huge disappointment and decision to halt their spiritual support and prayers for the NPP and the party’s Presidential Candidate, HE Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, over what they describe as an “unwise decision” concerning the nomination of Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh as the Running Mate of the party for the December 2024 Elections.
They complain that Dr. Opoku Prempeh as a Running Mate around their “brother” will only put their spiritual efforts in vain. According to them, the Minister of Energy is highly unpopular at the Zongos, Ashanti and other parts of the country due to what they describe as his “bad disrespectful attitude towards people”.
“We are proud sympathisers of the NPP who always pray for the NPP, particularly Alhaji Bawumia. Now this unwise decision has discouraged us and we will cease praying for them because it will be of no use. NAPO has a very bad disrespectful attitude towards people. Everyone in the Zongos, Ashanti and everywhere knows this. People don’t like him and it will affect the party in the elections.”
“We were in the middle of prayers for them when this news got to us so we’ve decided to stop. We don’t encourage arrogance and people with such attitudes. So we can’t be part it this. NAPO around our brother will do the party more harm than good in the elections. That’s why we are not happy”, they added.
They went further to claim that they supported the Vice President with prayers during the party’s Super Delegates conference and the main Presidential primaries which helped him win with ease.
They continued, “People don’t know. We played a key role in the super delegates conference and the presidential primaries with our prayers and fasting for Alhaji Bawumia. That made him win. With NAPO as the Running Mate, there’s no point in wasting our time and energy”.
The NPP Flagbearer is currently meeting the various stakeholders of the party on the Running Mate nomination, after which he will present the name to the National Council of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in line with the constitution of the party for acceptance.
