Fabrizio Confirms: Chelsea seriously considered signing £100m Manchester City player
Chelsea reportedly gave serious thought to signing Jack Grealish, the £100 million winger currently on the books of Manchester City, before he eventually joined Everton in the summer.

According to journalist Simon Phillips, speaking on Si Phillips Talks Chelsea and Fabrizio and cited by The Chelsea Chronicle, the Blues had “seriously considered” moving for Grealish on more than one occasion. Although a deal never materialised, there is now speculation that Chelsea may regret not following through with their interest, given the winger’s impressive start to life on Merseyside.
Transfers between Manchester City and Chelsea have become fairly common in recent years, often producing mixed results. Cole Palmer, who left City for Stamford Bridge in 2023, has since become one of Chelsea’s standout performers and one of English football’s brightest young stars. In contrast, Raheem Sterling’s move from City to Chelsea has not lived up to expectations, with inconsistent form and injuries limiting his impact.
The traffic has not been one-way either. Mateo Kovacic made the opposite switch last year, trading Chelsea blue for City’s sky blue, while Shaun Wright-Phillips famously returned to his boyhood club, City, from Chelsea in 2008.
Had Chelsea managed to sign Jack Grealish, he could have provided some of the creativity and flair the team is currently missing. With Cole Palmer sidelined due to a groin injury, the Blues have lacked a player capable of unlocking defences and driving the attack. Facundo Buonanotte has stepped in admirably, but the gap in quality has been noticeable.
While Grealish struggled at times to meet expectations under Pep Guardiola, he still contributed significantly during Manchester City’s Champions League-winning campaign. His game thrives on freedom and expression — qualities that might have been better suited to a setup like Chelsea’s, where he could have enjoyed a more prominent creative role.
For now, Chelsea must make do with what they have, but looking back, missing out on Grealish could be viewed as a lost opportunity. The 29-year-old appears revitalised at Everton, rediscovering the sharpness and confidence that once made him one of the Premier League’s most exciting talents.
Whether Chelsea revisit their interest in the future remains to be seen, but their past consideration shows the club’s ongoing desire to bring in players capable of making an immediate attacking impact — something they continue to seek as they rebuild under Enzo Maresca…CONTINUE MORE READING>>>
