Fire at Kissiman junction slum claims life of four-month-old Baby


A devastating fire swept through a slum at Kissiman Junction near Achimota-Samodakin the early hours of Wednesday, February 5, 2025, claiming the life of a four-month-old baby.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) responded swiftly after receiving a distress call at 4:12 a.m. Firefighters from the Legon and Abelemkpe Fire Stations arrived at the scene within 12 minutes, with the first team reaching at 4:24 a.m. They worked tirelessly to contain the flames and prevent them from spreading to nearby structures, including a warehouse.
Despite their efforts, over 20 wooden structures used as homes were completely destroyed, along with personal belongings. The fire was brought under control at 5:02 a.m., but the damage had already been done.
Firefighters are currently carrying out overhauling operations to fully extinguish any remaining flames. The charred body of the infant has been handed over to the police for further investigation. Meanwhile, the GNFS has launched an inquiry into the cause of the fire.
