Manchester City player ratings
- Ederson: 8 — Dealt with everything superbly, brilliant saves to deny Kroos and Alaba.
- Walker: 8 — Neutralised Vinicius. Enough said.
- Stones: 7 — Supported the attacks well in the first-half, defended with great composure in the second.
- Dias: 7 — Another excellent, stayed alert the entire game.
- Akanji: 8 — Not left footed, not a left-back, not even a full-back —but not a foot wrong.
- Rodri: 7 — Sits at the base of that midfield to excellent effect.
- Gundogan: 8 — Always seems to pop up somewhere differently, such a headache for the Real Madrid midfield.
- De Bruyne: 6 — Had some excellent moments but struggled to impact the game as strongly as he would have liked.
- Bernardo: 8 — Started the game fantastically and did not relent.
- Haaland: 6 — Missed two big chances but occupied so much of the defensive focus.
- Grealish: 8 — With Real so narrow there was so much resting on him and Bernardo. He did not disappoint.
SUBS:
- Mahrez: N/A
- Foden: N/A — Beautiful pass through to Alvarez.
- Alvarez: N/A — Took his finish so well.
Real Madrid player ratings
- Courtois: 8 — Excellent shot-stopping, couldn’t have helped his team any more than he did.
- Carvajal: 5 — If his battle with Grealish was a draw last week… he lost emphatically this week.
- Militao: 5 — Started the game with good aggression, which soon turned into frustration.
- Alaba: 5 — Will be disappointed with his performance, he struggled much more than expected.
- Camavinga: 5 — Struggled at left-back. Ancelotti left it far too long to move him to midfield.
- Valverde: 5 — Uncharacteristically passive.
- Kroos: 6 — Controlled the ball the best in Real’s midfield.
- Modric: 5 — Looked immune to City’s press in the first leg but Guardiola’s approach tonight neutralised him completely.
- Rodrygo: 4 — Failed to offer in and out of possession, should have been replaced at half-time.
- Benzema: 4 — So isolated, with the wingers staying higher and wider, we should have seen him offering more.
- Vinicius Jr: 4 — Walker only let him out of his pocket to go to the changing rooms.
SUBS:
- Rudiger: 6 — Hard to gauge his performance but he didn’t do anything wrong.
- Asensio: 5 — Did you notice him? I didn’t.
- Tchouameni: N/A
- Ceballos: N/A
- Vasquez: N/A
