Ghanaians have given us all the numbers we need to reset Ghana – Majority Leader
Mahama Ayariga, the Majority Leader and Leader of Government Business in Parliament, has assured that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will exercise its majority in Parliament with responsibility and restraint.

“The National Democratic Congress, for the first time in a very long time, has two-thirds in this House. With this number, we can do many good things for this country.
“And with this number, we can carry out significant constitutional reforms to make this country better,” Mr Ayariga added.
He made these remarks following the swearing-in of the newly elected Member of Parliament for Ablekuma North, Madam Ewurabena Aubynn, on Tuesday.
The NDC now holds 184 seats, with four Independent MPs aligning with the Majority, bringing their total to 188 — enough for a two-thirds majority in Parliament.
The Minority New Patriotic Party (NPP) holds 87 seats after the passing of Ernest Yaw Kumi, the late MP for Akwatia, on July 7, 2025, after a short illness.
Mr Ayariga stated: “Ghanaians, today, have given us all the numbers that we need to reset Ghana. I want to assure Ghanaians that what President John Mahama said when he was being sworn-in still stands: the NDC will not abuse the majority given to it by Ghanaians; we will use it wisely.
“We will use it properly and we will make sure that this number inures to the benefit of Ghanaians.”
Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin administered the Oath of Office and Oath of Allegiance to Madam Ewurabena Aubynn, officially inducting her into Parliament.
He also presented her with copies of the Parliamentary Standing Orders and the Constitution of Ghana to support her duties.
Mr Bagbin reminded the new MP of the expectations of her constituents, saying, “The people expect you to improve their lives. It is a trust, you don’t abuse it. You’ll go back to them again.”
Prior to the swearing-in, the Minority Caucus walked out of the chamber after their request to make a preliminary statement was denied by the Speaker.
Mr Frank Annor-Dompreh, the Minority Chief Whip and MP for Nsawam Adoagyiri, had asked for permission to speak before the ceremony, but the request was not granted.
In the re-run of 19 polling stations on July 11, the NPP candidate Nana Akua Owusu Afriyie received 33,881 votes, while the NDC’s Madam Ewurabena Aubynn secured 34,090 votes, winning the seat.
