Godfred Dame vs Ato Forson case: If he pushes me, I will open Pandora’s box – Businessman threatens AG

Richard Jakpa, a businessman, is the third accused in the current trial of Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the minority leader. He claims that Godfred Dame, the attorney general, is trying to pressure him into bringing a case against the minority leader.

Richard Jakpa said that the Attorney General called him at strange hours to elicit his cooperation. According to 3news.com, he made this claim during court proceedings on Thursday, May 23, 2024.

When Dame accused him of shielding Ato Forson, he responded by threatening to divulge additional information if the Attorney General dared him.

“The AG has on several occasions engaged me at odd hours to help him make a case against A1, and I have evidence for that.

“If he pushes me, I will open Pandora’s box. I don’t understand why the AG would accuse me of defending A1 when I’m here to defend myself,” the third accused is quoted as having said.

Background:

Former Deputy Minister for Finance Dr. Ato Forson, former Ministry of Health Chief Director Sylvester Anemana, and private businessman Richard Jakpa are on trial for allegedly purposefully causing the state to lose €2.37 million on a contract to buy 200 ambulances for the Ministry of Health.

Judge Afia Serwah Asare-Botwe, a Court of Appeal Judge serving as an additional High Court Judge, presided over the trial of the former deputy finance minister and the others on January 18, 2022.

To the five counts of intentionally misusing public property, abetment of crime, purposefully inflicting financial harm to the state, and violating the Public Procurement Act, they have entered a not guilty plea.

The case against the former Chief Director of the Ministry was dropped by the state in March 2024. The former director is receiving additional medical care in India as a result of health issues.
