Government opens up on selling ECG
The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has restated that the Government of Ghana has no plans to sell the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

In a statement released on Tuesday, December 30, the Ministry explained that the Private Sector Participation framework approved for ECG is meant to improve operations and not to sell or divest the state-owned company.
“The Ministry emphasises unequivocally that the Government of Ghana does not intend to, and will not, sell ECG.
The approved Private Sector Participation framework is not a sale or divestiture.
Rather, it involves the strategic deployment of private sector expertise through multiple concession arrangements to support and improve specific operational areas of ECG,” the statement said.
The Ministry noted that the recent appointment of a transaction advisor is a normal procedural process aimed at properly structuring the PSP framework.
“The selection of a transaction advisor is a technical and procedural step to properly structure the PSP framework and does not in any way constitute or imply an outright sale of ECG,” it added.
“Government remains committed to protecting the interests of workers, strengthening ECG, and ensuring a reliable, efficient, and sustainable power sector for all Ghanaians,” the Ministry concluded.
This clarification follows nationwide symbolic protests by ECG workers on December 29, who raised concerns that the appointment of a transaction advisor could affect the future of the company.
