Gov’t investigating alleged MTN ‘vanishing data’
The Ministry of Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovation has announced that it is investigating widespread complaints about unusually fast data depletion, commonly referred to as “vanishing data.” The Ministry has also indicated it will take action against any telecom company found to have manipulated data tariffs.

The probe comes amid rising frustration from the public, especially after a 15% increase in internet bundle prices by telecom providers.
Speaking at the launch of the Ministerial AI Bootcamp on Friday, July 25, Minister Samuel Nartey George confirmed that his office has received numerous complaints from consumers.
He stressed, however, that penalties can only be imposed if there is clear evidence of misconduct.
“When I say I’m working on the complaints, it means we’re actively looking into it. But if the findings don’t show tariff tampering, I cannot impose sanctions—that’s the reality,” Mr. George stated.
He called on the public to remain patient as investigations proceed and reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to protecting consumers and ensuring fairness in the telecom industry.
