GPL 2025/26: Heart of Lions trashes Kotoko in 3-1 win

Heart of Lions dealt Asante Kotoko a major setback in their title push after recording a 3-1 win in the Ghana Premier League at the Kpando Sports Stadium.

Kotoko, who were eight points behind league leaders Medeama following Friday’s defeat to Nations FC, failed to capitalise on the slip.

After a cautious start, the visitors conceded a well taken goal by Seedorf Asante in the 35th minute before Ali Fawzi doubled the lead just before halftime.

Kotoko pulled one back around the hour mark when Samba O’Neil converted a penalty to reduce the deficit.

However, any hopes of a comeback were dashed when forward Michael Ephson restored the hosts’ two goal advantage with 20 minutes left to play.

Kotoko were unable to mount a response as Heart of Lions returned to winning ways after their previous loss to Bechem United.

Kotoko now sit third on the league table with 35 points, five more than Heart of Lions, who are in seventh place.
