Hearts, Kotoko progress in MTN FA Cup

Three second-half goals from Mawuli Wayo, Enoch Asubonteng, and Asamoah Boateng Afriyie propelled Accra Hearts of Oak to a 3-0 win over Division One League (DOL) side, Home Stars, to advance to the round of 16 stage of the MTN FA Cup competition.

Despite playing at an unfamiliar University of Ghana Stadium, Homes Stars began the game on the front foot, attacking the host.

The Phobians, however, took over with possession and dominated the exchanges as Mawuli Wayo and Kwabena Boateng missed begging chances.

Back from recess coach Aboubakar Ouattara introduced Afriyie and Raphael Amponsah who added some bite to the Hearts attack.

Wayo blasted home the opener on 54 minutes with the second coming in the 63rd minute through Asubonteng.

Afriyie put the game beyond the reach of the visitors with the third goal on 72 minutes.

Meanwhile, Asante Kotoko registered a 2-0 victory over Acceler8z FC at the Baba Yara Stadium, yesterday to book a place in the round of 16 stage of the MTN FA Cup competition.

Kwame Poku puts the Porcupine Warriors ahead on the stroke of halftime when he planted firmly from the spot.

This was after Saaka Dauda was fouled inside the goal area of the opponent.

The second half was very difficult for the Reds who were compel to mass up deep to thwart the efforts of the Acceler8z.

With their backs against the wall, they pushed more players forwards and forced the Kotoko defenders to work overtime.

Kotoko, at this time kept their composure and adopted a counter-attacking approach.

In one of their breaks, a pass to a Kotoko player handed them the advantage in a very good area, build up so well before a pass was laid to substitute Ansu Henry who controlled brilliantly before slotting home to secure the win.
