Here is the events leading to Shatta Wale’s EOCO detention (VIDEO)
Dancehall artiste Charles Nii Armah Mensah, popularly known as Shatta Wale, was on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, detained by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) after being invited to assist in an ongoing investigation.

According to Ghanaian media personality and member of Shatta Wale’s management team, Samuel Atuobi Baah, popularly known as Sammy Flex, the artiste honoured the invitation voluntarily.
In a video statement on his official X page, Sammy Flex explained that EOCO had first invited Shatta Wale on August 13, but the meeting was postponed to August 20 because of state funeral activities.
He clarified that the matter was connected to investigations into the purchase of a yellow Lamborghini and issues surrounding tax obligations. Sammy Flex stressed that it was not about money laundering, contrary to widespread rumours.
“Shatta Wale went there himself this afternoon after receiving the invitation to assist in investigations into the Lamborghini and related matters. He presented himself as a law-abiding citizen and defended the fact that he bought his car,” Sammy Flex stated.
He added that Shatta Wale’s lawyer, Cephas, was present during the interrogation. After the session, EOCO officials confirmed that the artiste was not involved in money laundering or any other criminal act, dismissing earlier media reports.
“After interrogation, it was clear that Shatta Wale is not involved in money laundering or any other criminal act, as some portals have falsely reported. The main issue is about tax obligations related to the vehicle,” Sammy Flex emphasised.
