The High Court has instructed the Electoral Commission (EC) to recollate and declare the parliamentary election results for the Ablekuma North and Nsawam-Adoagyiri constituencies, overturning the initial declarations.
This ruling came after a writ filed by aggrieved parliamentary candidates, who alleged irregularities in the collation process. The petitioners demanded fresh elections, citing concerns about transparency and accuracy.
Delivering his judgment on Friday, December 20, Presiding Judge Joseph Adu Owusu Agyeman directed the EC to conduct a recollation of votes for the Ablekuma North constituency. The Nsawam-Adoagyiri results were also included in the order, emphasizing the need for fairness and accountability in the electoral process.
The ruling faced resistance from legal representatives of both major political parties. NDC lawyer Godwin Edudzi Tamaklo and NPP’s lead counsel Gary Nimako, representing Frank Annoh-Dompreh, argued that the results had already been officially declared and should stand.
However, the court disagreed, stating that the anomalies identified during the collation process were significant enough to warrant a review. Judge Adu Owusu Agyeman asserted that recollation would ensure accuracy, transparency, and public confidence in the results.
