Homowo Clashes: Sowutuom chief’s son was shot multiple times – Report

The Member of Parliament for Anyaa-Sowutuom, Emmanuel Tobbin, has confirmed that the son of traditional leader Nuumo Ofori was among those killed in Saturday’s violent clashes between residents of Anyaa-Sowutuom and Omanjor during the Homowo festival.

According to a police statement, the deceased have been identified as Abubakar Ramadan Sarbah, also known as Nii Kwashiebu, Theophilus Nii Amu Kwadjan, and Joseph Shaibu Dodoo. Four others were injured, including Enoch Amevor, who has since been treated and discharged. The remaining victims are Samuel Adjei, Nathaniel Doku, and Frederick Lartey, popularly called Nii Obrafour. They are receiving care at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital and Ridge Hospital.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Mr. Tobbin revealed that Nuumo Ofori’s son had been shot several times while attempting to mediate a dispute over the sprinkling of kpokpoi near a boundary at Mensah Addo.

“He was shot about ten times, from the head to other parts of the body. This is no small matter because Nuumo Ofori is not an ordinary chief. The entire community witnessed what happened,” the MP said.

He explained that tensions remain high, with nearly 200 young men gathering at the chief’s palace on Sunday in what appeared to be a show of anger and possible intent to retaliate.

Mr. Tobbin appealed for calm, assuring that police investigations are ongoing and that discussions are being arranged between leaders from both sides to restore peace.
