How Policemen Ambushed Randy Abbey to Seize Car Over Court Order

Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana host, Randy Abbey, has recounted a dramatic encounter with armed police officers who ambushed him at the station’s car park in an attempt to seize his vehicle, claiming to have a court order.

The incident, which has since gone viral on social media, unfolded yesterday at the premises of the Accra-based television station.

In the viral footage, Randy Abbey described how the officers alleged they were acting on a court order against Metro TV, justifying their attempt to confiscate his vehicle. However, Abbey resisted, leading to a tense standoff that escalated further.

The situation intensified when the officers, accompanied by unidentified individuals, allegedly tried to force their way into the Good Morning Ghana studio during a live broadcast.

The intrusion sparked clashes between the officers and Metro TV staff, with the station’s private security personnel stepping in to block their entry.

During the altercation, some security staff sustained injuries and were rushed to a medical facility for treatment. The police’s actions caused alarm among staff and disrupted the station’s operations.

In another widely shared video, a visibly shaken Randy Abbey confronted the officers, demanding explanations for their actions. “Why are you here, and what exactly are you trying to achieve?” he is heard asking, as tensions flared between both sides. Despite Abbey’s efforts, the officers reportedly insisted on carrying out their mission, further deepening the confrontation.

The incident has sparked widespread outrage and concerns about press freedom in Ghana. With the nation just 10 days away from the December 7 general elections, many have expressed fears about increasing intimidation tactics against media houses.

Ghanaians have taken to social media to condemn the actions of the police, with users describing the attempted intrusion as a worrying threat to democracy and journalistic independence. Civil society groups and media advocates have also called for a thorough investigation into the incident.
