I cannot declare Daddy Lumba dead yet, I haven’t see his body – Abusuapanyin

The Abusuapanyin (family head) and extended family of legendary Ghanaian musician Daddy Lumba have broken their silence following reports of his death.

In an interview with Akosua of GH Page, the Abusuapanyin expressed skepticism over the reports, stating that he would only accept that Daddy Lumba is truly gone if he sees the mortuary keys and, ultimately, views the lifeless body of the late icon himself.

“Until I see the mortuary keys and the body, I cannot declare him dead. We need confirmation, not just rumours,” he stated firmly.

He revealed that he had already dispatched some family members to Accra to verify the news surrounding the musician’s death and urged the public to remain calm until there is official family confirmation.

“I’ve sent people to make enquiries. Once they return with confirmation, I will then proceed with the next steps.”

The family head emphasized that only after verification would he feel confident enough to formally inform key national figures such as Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, former President John Mahama, and other prominent dignitaries about Daddy Lumba’s passing.

In line with Akan tradition, he subtly referred to the late musician’s death as “buying the farm”—a euphemism often used to signify death respectfully.
