I have faith in my constituents to vote base on achievement not rhetoric – Egyapa Mercer

The Member of Parliament for Sekondi, Andrew Kofi Egyapa Mercer, has mounted a strong defense of his stewardship, insisting that he has served the people of Sekondi to the best of his abilities.

He stated that it is now up to the constituents to determine whether his efforts have been beneficial or not. “The conclusion I believe will be a positive one,” he added.

According to him, he is trusting the constituents in Sekondi to renew his mandate on Saturday, December 7, as he has worked fervently to enhance their well-being.

“I’ve done my best, served the people of Sekondi in the best possible way, and I know that, by the grace of God, they will renew my mandate. My stewardship has been one that has improved their well-being,” he explained to Nhyiraba Paa Kwesi Simpson on the Omanbapa Morning Show on Connect 97.1 FM, Tuesday, December 3.

However, he acknowledged that he is not under any “illusion” that his tenure will last forever, noting that others before him also contributed to Sekondi’s success story before leaving the scene.

“Others came before me and also did their best. If the people of Sekondi decide they want to go with a different representative, that will be their decision, and I will respect it.”

He added, “In the unlikely event that the people of Sekondi decide otherwise, my pledge will be to support my successor to the best of my ability. There is only one Sekondi, and it will always hold a special place in my heart.”

Andrew Kofi Egyapa Mercer expressed concern that the campaign in Sekondi has been marred by character assassination, unseasoned pronouncements, falsehoods, and baseless accusations, all in a bid to gain votes.

“Anything I’ve said about my opponent, particularly regarding his professional life, is the truth, and he himself has corroborated it. It is rather unfortunate that, in attempting to settle scores, his associates have resorted to imaginary claims, personal attacks, and other uncalled-for behavior.”

He concluded, “Whether or not this will affect the election is up to Sekondi to decide. I have faith in the constituents that their vote will be based on tangible achievements, not concocted rhetoric fueled by malice and baseless hearsay.”
