I know Ken wants to come to Ghana – Gabby Otchere-Darko
Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, a senior New Patriotic Party (NPP) figure, has publicly spoken for the first time about the situation involving his cousin, former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, who is currently detained by United States immigration authorities.

In an interview on GHOne TV, Gabby initially declined to answer questions about Ofori-Atta but later offered limited comments. When asked about claims that Ken was solely responsible for some of the “unpopular decisions” on Ghana’s economy during former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s administration, Gabby said:
“I haven’t seen him for a while, so I don’t know.”
He added that he would keep his personal feelings to himself when pressed further on whether Ken bore full responsibility for those decisions.
On the topic of Ofori-Atta’s detention, Gabby described his cousin as mentally strong, emphasizing that his faith would help him navigate the challenges he currently faces. Responding to questions about images showing Ofori-Atta in a black detainee jumpsuit during a virtual US immigration court appearance, Gabby said:
“He is a very strong man mentally, so I’m sure he is doing well.”
Gabby also declined to comment on reports of a supposed conversation with Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States, Victor Emmanuel Smith, in which he was said to have suggested that Ken is afraid to return to Ghana. He stated:
“I don’t discuss private conversations publicly, so I don’t wish to discuss it,”
without confirming or denying whether such a conversation had occurred.
However, Gabby reassured Ghanaians about Ofori-Atta’s eventual return, saying:
“I believe Ken would come to Ghana, and I know he wants to come to Ghana.”
