I’m sorry I lied – Under fire Walewale unemployed man confesses

A 37-year-old job seeker from Walewale in the North East Region’s West Mamprusi Municipality has backed down on his earlier assertions that he was unemployed and hence needed public assistance to find employment.

Issifu Salifu got social media attention within 48 hours after a post seeking jobs from potential companies and stating that he was unemployed despite having an MPhil.

His viral post said, “My name is Issifu Salifu, and I’m 37 years old from Walewale. I attended Loagri-Kukui Primary and Junior High School before moving on to Nalerigu SHS. I graduated from the University of Ghana with first-class degrees in Geography and Resource Development (major) and Political Science (minor). I then earned an MPhil in Development Studies from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology in 2017. “I am currently looking for work to support myself and my family.”

Persons close to him, on the other hand, exposed his insincerity by claiming that the individual seeking employment was already working for the Electoral Commission and implying that he was up to mischief.

When a sister news website, Yen.com.gh, contacted him to determine whether or not the counter-claims against him were accurate, he was forced to admit to being employed.

He is cited as saying, “I am currently employed by the EC as a secretary in the North East Regional Office. My take-home pay is insufficient to support me, therefore I’ve been hunting for work since 2020. I’ve approached numerous political figures looking for work, but I haven’t received a satisfactory response.

“I started the PhD program in 2020 and got a GETFUND scholarship which covers only my tuition fees. I was struggling for feeding on campus, no accommodation fees, books, etc.

“My job too is not paying much so, I decided to deferred the program to gather money to continue, but, since I am struggling to find my feet.

“I made a plea that if I could have gotten GNPC scholarship which cover stipends, feeding, accommodation and research allowance, so I can comfortably manage my program but I haven’t. I am not blaming anyone for my situation, but, I am looking everywhere for a better employment to help myself,” he added.
