It is Robbery Levy not Energy Sector Levy – Abronye

The Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, has accused the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) of introducing what he terms a “robbery levy” under the pretense of addressing energy sector challenges.

His comments come in reaction to the implementation of the Energy Sector Levies (Amendment) Act, 2025 (Act 1141), which takes effect today, July 16, 2025. The policy will result in a fuel price increase of GH¢1 per litre, or roughly GH¢4.5 per gallon.

Speaking on Wontumi TV’s Morning Show, Abronye claimed the levy is not intended to resolve the country’s persistent power issues (locally known as dumsor) but rather serves as a tactic by the Mahama-led administration to extort funds from already burdened Ghanaians.

“They promised a Dumsor Levy but have introduced a Robbery Levy instead. This is just another way to make Ghanaians pay for their incompetence,” he stated.
