JUST IN: Muslim victims of helicopter crash to be buried today

A solemn burial will be held today for two Muslim victims of the August 6 military helicopter crash.

Former Minister for Environment Dr. Ibrahim Mohammed Murtala and former Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Alhaji Muniru Limuna Mohammed will be laid to rest in line with Islamic tradition.

According to a statement from the Presidency, the ceremony will begin with Janazah prayers at 2:00 p.m. at the Forecourt of the State House in Accra, followed by burial at the Military Cemetery at 2:30 p.m.

The two officials were among eight people who lost their lives when a Ghana Air Force helicopter went down in the Adansi-Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region.

The crash has plunged the nation into mourning, with tributes pouring in from all corners of the country.

Today’s burial rites are expected to draw high-profile dignitaries, including President John Mahama, the Vice President, the Speaker of Parliament, and the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Religious leaders such as the National Chief Imam and the leader of the Ambariya Sunni Group will also be present, alongside family members of the deceased and traditional leaders.

While the two Muslim victims are being buried today, a larger inter-denominational state funeral for all eight victims will take place on Friday, August 15, 2025, at the Black Star Square.
