Ken Ofori-Atta could be back in Ghana sooner than expected – Deputy AG

The Deputy Attorney General, Dr Justice Srem Sai, has said that former Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, could be brought back to Ghana earlier than many expect.

He made the comments while speaking on TV3 on January 10, 2026, following Ofori-Atta’s arrest and detention by the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Dr Srem Sai explained that Ghanaian authorities have been working on the matter for some time and did not begin their efforts after the recent arrest.

“We are taking advantage of everything, and it didn’t start today. We have been on this [extradition process] from the very moment that we realised that the former minister was out of the country and was unwilling to return.

“So, we have been doing work to make sure that he returns, and that is what we are committed to doing,” he said.

He stressed that the government is working closely with US law enforcement agencies to ensure the process moves forward.

“We are actually keenly interested and involved in this so, it’s not even about taking advantage of it. We have been on this track from day one. We collaborate with law enforcement agencies from the United States on this matter,” he stated.

When asked whether these efforts could lead to Ofori-Atta’s return happening sooner than expected, Dr Srem Sai responded confidently, saying, “[Ofori-Atta could be back in Ghana] sooner than expected.”…CONTINUE MORE READING>>>
