Key member of Ken Agyapong’s team dump him for Bawumia

In a notable development within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Alhaji Sule Binchera, the former constituency coordinator for Kennedy Agyapong in the Yendi Constituency, has officially thrown his support behind former Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia in the lead-up to the party’s presidential primaries in January.

A known grassroots organiser with strong ties to Kennedy Agyapong’s camp, Binchera made the announcement on Wednesday, framing the decision as a step taken for the sake of party unity and Ghana’s progress.

“This is not about personal loyalty. It’s about the survival and success of our great party,” Binchera said. “Bawumia has shown the readiness, maturity, and vision to lead the NPP into the next chapter. I am proud to be part of that journey.”

His shift in allegiance is being interpreted as a setback for Agyapong’s internal campaign and a gain for Bawumia’s growing influence, particularly in the northern part of the country.

With strong credibility and grassroots appeal in Yendi and neighbouring areas, Binchera’s backing is expected to carry weight among party members.

During his tour of the Northern Region, Bawumia expressed appreciation for the endorsement.

“We welcome Alhaji Binchera and commend his courage. This is the time to come together and consolidate our strength as a party. Breaking the eight is not a slogan—it’s a mission we must all take seriously.”

As the contest for the NPP flagbearer position intensifies, moves like this could have a significant impact.

With Binchera now in his camp, Bawumia continues to strengthen his position as both the preferred choice of the establishment and a unifier capable of rallying different factions ahead of the 2025 general elections.
