Kufuor, Akufo-Addo will not attend NPP delegates conference – Report
Former Presidents John Agyekum Kufuor and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will address the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2025 National Delegates Conference virtually, party sources have confirmed.

The two former leaders are unable to attend the high-stakes conference, scheduled for Saturday, July 19, at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium in Accra, due to circumstances described as “beyond their control.”
Saturday’s conference marks the NPP’s first major national gathering since its defeat in the December 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections. Delegates from all 16 regions are expected to convene for discussions aimed at repositioning the party ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Immediate past President Nana Akufo-Addo, who has been outside the country for some time, is unable to return for the event. He was already out of the jurisdiction when the NPP’s National Council fixed the July 19 date, and party insiders confirm he will not be able to travel back in time.
Former President John Agyekum Kufuor, who recently took part in the launch of the NPP’s ideological training centre, the Patriotic Institute, is also unavailable to attend in person.
Sources close to the party’s leadership confirmed that both statesmen will deliver their messages to the conference via video link.
The NPP National Council was officially informed of this arrangement during a meeting on Wednesday ahead of the conference.
This year’s gathering will focus on key constitutional reforms, including proposals from the Mike Oquaye Committee and an unresolved amendment from the party’s 2019 Delegates Conference in Kumasi.
The theme for the 2025 conference is “Rebuilding Together with Our Values,” reflecting the party’s goal of reconnecting with its grassroots, reaffirming its founding principles, and restoring confidence among its supporters.
