Leading member of NPP slapped with GH¢500,000

The Agona Swedru High Court has awarded general damages of GH¢500,000 against Kwame Egyire Annan, a leading member of the New Patriotic Party in the Agona East Constituency, for making defamatory remarks about Prof. Kwesi Yankah, the NPP parliamentary candidate for the constituency in the 2020 general elections.

The court also awarded costs of GH¢5,000 against the defendant in favour of the plaintiff.

Speaking to the media after the ruling, Justice Abudulai, counsel for the plaintiff, expressed gratitude to the court for the decision in favour of Prof. Yankah, although he noted that they had sought GH¢1 million in damages.

He also used the opportunity to caution politicians to be mindful of their public statements to help sustain democracy in the country…CONTINUE MORE READING>>>
