Linda Ocloo orders shutdown of metal company over stolen scrap allegations

The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Akweley Ocloo, has directed the temporary closure of N-Nest Metal Company Limited while investigations are carried out into allegations that the company buys stolen metal items from scrap dealers for its operations.

The decision follows initial findings that link the company to the purchase of stolen streetlight cables, electrical meters and transformers, at a time when reports of theft of public infrastructure are on the rise in the region.

Speaking to journalists during a visit to the company on Monday, January 19, Minister Ocloo said National Security authorities must conduct a full investigation into the firm’s activities.

“My interest is on my streetlights because we have issues with thefts. When they fix the streetlights, you notice that they pull the cables and sell the copper in it. And so it was alleged that when they steal the cables, this is where, I mean, not only here, some of the scrap companies, this is where they bring for them to what? To buy.

“Not only the streetlights, some of the electrical cables, transformers, what have you, even meters. And we were asked, I mean, to shut down the place temporarily for investigation.”
