Mahama and Akufo-Addo Collaborate for Smooth Transition
President-elect John Dramani Mahama and outgoing President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo have jointly inaugurated the 2024 National Transition Team, a pivotal step in ensuring a seamless transfer of power in Ghana.
The ceremony, held on Wednesday, December 11, at the Jubilee House in Accra, signifies the continuation of Ghana’s strong democratic traditions. The Transition Team, mandated by the Presidential (Transition) Act, 2012 (Act 845), will oversee the structured handover of governance, ensuring continuity and stability.
Key Roles of the Transition Team
The National Transition Team is responsible for:
- Providing the incoming administration with critical state briefings.
- Facilitating access to essential government data.
- Coordinating the formal swearing-in of the President-elect.
This process ensures the incoming administration is well-prepared to assume office and address pressing national issues immediately.
Commitment to Unity and Stability
President-elect Mahama emphasized the importance of unity and collaboration during this transition.
“Mr. President has given me a brief on the security situation, both internal and external, and also a short brief on issues having to do with the economy. The transitional teams will drill down further into these matters, and we are going to work together in the interest of Ghana to ensure a seamless transition,” Mahama stated.
Outgoing President’s Assurance
President Akufo-Addo reaffirmed his dedication to a smooth handover, reflecting his administration’s commitment to democracy.
“I assure him [John Dramani Mahama] of my full support and that of my government over the transitional process to make sure that his administration takes off in the best of condition,” he noted.
A Testament to Ghana’s Democracy
The collaboration between the outgoing and incoming administrations underscores Ghana’s reputation as a beacon of democracy in Africa. By prioritizing stability, continuity, and cooperation, the transition process sets a positive tone for the next chapter of governance.
