President-elect John Dramani Mahama has described his decisive victory in the 2024 presidential election as a testament to divine intervention. Mahama, who secured 56.55% of the total valid votes cast, surpassed his closest contender, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who garnered 41.61%.
The triumph not only reestablishes Mahama as president but also marks a significant milestone for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), which has clinched a commanding majority in Parliament with over 170 seats, including several constituencies historically dominated by the NPP.
“A Victory Beyond Expectation”
Speaking during a visit by leaders of the Assemblies of God Church, led by Reverend Stephen Wengam, Mahama expressed gratitude for the support and prayers from the religious community. He acknowledged that while he anticipated success, the scale of the victory surpassed expectations.
“I was positive that we would win, but the magnitude of this victory can only be God’s hand at work. It is one of the biggest endorsements that Ghana has ever given to any president,” Mahama remarked.
A Call for Continued Prayers
As he prepares to tackle the nation’s economic challenges, Mahama urged the church to sustain its prayers for his administration. “This is the time that we need prayers even more because the expectations of Ghanaians are going to be even higher,” he stated, referencing the severe economic difficulties Ghana is currently facing.
The president-elect also assured the church of his administration’s reciprocal support, pledging to serve as ambassadors and advocates for the church while navigating the country’s path to recovery.
A Resounding Mandate
Mahama’s win is seen as a historic endorsement, further consolidating his leadership credentials as he readies himself to lead the nation through a challenging but hopeful new chapter.
