Mahama ex-gratia: Dr. Clement Apaak ‘slaps’ Abronye

Dr. Clement Apaak, Member of Parliament for Builsa South, has slammed New Patriotic Party’s Kwame Baffoe aka Abronye for claiming that former President Ohn Drwmani Mahama received 14 million as ex-gratia in 2013.

The lawmaker claims that the former president’s admission that he pays his bills and rents his own office space has exposed the lies that have been spread about him.

According to the NPP officer, Mr. Mahama was paid 14 million Ghana cedis in ex-gratia in 2013.

Former President John Dramani Mahama has called claims by the New Patriotic Party’s Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe alias Abronye DC, that he (Mahama) received an ex-gratia of GH14 million in 2013 and GH15 million in 2017 “absolute lies.”

According to Mr. Mahama, the government’s only payment to him in 2013 through the Accountant General was GH230,000.

“No ex-gratia, I was paid 230,000 as salary arrears in 2013,” Mr Mahama said in an interview on TV3.

“Later, if you want we can call a group of you journalists, of course, I don’t want to publish my bank statement but I can put it before you and you can look through all the payments and see if there is a 14 million cedi payment. I didn’t receive any such payment,” Mr. Mahama said.

“I receive only my monthly pension like President Kufuor and President Rawlings was receiving before he died. That is all I get.

“I pay the electricity bill for my house and my office, I pay the water bill for my house and my office. I live in my own accommodation so the State does not pay me anything for accommodation.

“They haven’t given me an office, I rent an office in East Cantonments, I pay the rent myself, I pay my own fuel, the State doesn’t give me fuel, I pay my own domestic staff, I pay my own medical bills, I pay my own air tickets when I travel…”.

In response to the revelation, Dr. Apaak stated that the lies were deliberately spread to discredit the former president.

He claimed that the former leader was denied his entitlements and benefits as enshrined in Ghana’s constitution, while a party official went around spreading lies about the leader.

He referred to the NPP’s claims as discrimination against Mr. Mahama.

“Contrary to the lies peddled about JM regarding ex-gratia and related benefits by NADAA/NPP via Abronye, the truth is that JM has been denied his legitimate entitlements. Watch JM expose the lies and discrimination against him by the NADAA/Bawumia NPP.”
