Majority of programmes NDC are running can be found in the Planting for Food and Jobs document – Bryan Acheampong

New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful Bryan Acheampong has claimed that the NDC government’s Nkoko Nkintikiti programme was originally developed by the NPP as part of a wider poultry intensification plan.

According to him, several agricultural initiatives the NDC is currently rolling out were already outlined under the NPP’s Planting for Food and Jobs Phase Two policy.

“If you look at the 2025/2026 NDC budget, most of the programmes they are implementing can be found in the Planting for Food and Jobs Phase Two document. The targeted crops, including poultry, are the same ten crops we outlined. The targets are almost the same, and even the irrigation projects mentioned include ones I initiated and commissioned. It is not a bad thing, but the foundation was laid under the NPP,” he said.

Mr Acheampong explained that the Nkoko Nkintikiti programme was conceived by the NPP to boost local poultry production, reduce imports, and improve food security.

“We projected the number of birds needed over a five-year period to significantly reduce poultry imports and meet domestic demand,” he added.

Speaking on JoyNews’ PM Express, he said the goals of the Nkoko Nkintikiti programme closely align with long-standing NPP agricultural policies.

He noted that his decision to contest for the NPP presidential slot is motivated by his desire to build on these existing policies and contribute to Ghana’s development.

Mr Acheampong, a former Minister for Agriculture, said returning the NPP to power would allow the party to fully implement and expand initiatives already started in the agriculture sector and other areas.
