According to Population and Housing Census data, the population of the Eastern Region increased from 2,633,154 in 2010 to 3,317,403 in 2021.
During the period, population growth is 1.00%, compared to the Regional Coordinating Council’s projection of 2.1%.
Speaking to the media in Accra, Eastern Regional Minister Honourable Seth Kwame Acheampong stated that the rural population will account for 48.6% of the total population in 2021, while the urban population will account for 51.5%.
He stated that the female population in the Region is 49.1% and the male population is 50.9%.
The drop in the female population have since raised reactions.
Honorable Seth Kwame Acheampong stated that the growth rate is not encouraging and that the Ghana Statistical Service should reconsider its enumeration, adding that he had already communicated with them about the numbers.
The Eastern Region is the second largest region in terms of the number of Assemblies, with 15 Municipal and 18 District Assemblies, as well as 11 Paramountcies spread across a land area of 19,323 square kilometers.
